We are restless in driving change to advance children’s rights and equity for girls and young women by working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners

SCOEN strives to advance the rights children and equality for girls, young women now and for generations. Our vision is for Children, women and girls in East and Northern Uganda to have equal access, opportunity, and influence in all aspects of their public and private lives.

SCOEN programs draw lessons from real life experiences to advocate and support adolescents especially the girls and young women including those with special needs and child mothers in and out of school to enjoy their rights to quality education, health and protection. This prepares the future generation of empowered girls and young women to bravely challenge and dismantle the power structures and dynamics that perpetuate discrimination and abuse.

SCOEN programs are delivered through numerous approaches that fall under the four thematic areas of education, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, mentoring and economic empowerment. Cross cutting issues such as gender equality and equity, environment management and disability are integrated in all programs.

Advancing Girl’s Leadership

Challenging social norms and attitudes to achieve trans-formative change for girls and their communities.

End Harmful Practices

Harmful practices, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage are violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Ending Adolescent AIDS

AIDS is now the leading cause of death among adolescents (aged 10–19 years) in Africa, and it is the second most common cause of death among adolescents globally.

Child Participation

We support children to exercise their rights as citizens, to express their views and to organise themselves. This helps ensure they live more secure and fulfilling lives

Violence Against Women

By cultivating an understanding of violence against women, we seek to transform the way power is used between men and women in society.

Water Hygiene & Sanitation

Our WASH programming is community-led, which aligns with our child-centred community development approach.
